Hey guys, After some days waiting for my new tools to arrive, I have resumed work (stripping), here's some more photos of my progress: Here's the rocker cover from the inside, looks quite clean... How they left this in this state I do not know, obviously going to have to replace, no shame in some people's work, just look at the state of it!!! Other than that, the rest looked quite intact. These I had to clean up something rotten!! Get all the silicone off and then clean, why? I think I may just have to get new ones as they are still in a horrible state!! Cam chain in really good nick though, I was very surprised!! Clutch housing cover gasket in again, a horrible state, so much silicone on this bike it looked like a TVR from the old days!! The clutch housing cover, obviously broken or leaked at some point and yet another botch job done!!! Didn't look that bad after a good clean eh? How much carbon build up?? Quite a clean spark plug eh??? what's going on there then?? Yet more gunk and a very clean plug: Oily, well, I seem to thing so, maybe running a bit rich? The overall picture, yuch! From first impressions, I think something is not quite right? (sarcasm maybe?) No visible scoring but a bit of play in the piston, leads me to think that it's defo the rings!! Again, lots of build up, to be expected but with no play in this one!! This one is the one that bewilders me, very clean to be honest!! Still, this one doesn't look entirely right? This is the frame as it looked after taking the engine out, pretty dirty?? A bit blury but I can assure you, loads of soot!! absolutely full of it!! Yet again, loads!! If you were all wondering, I am not a mechanic and would love some feedback on anything to be honest, my brother in law is helping me out as I would love to get into the mechanical side of things, I am thoroughly enjoying myself here and I after this one, maybe another project? More to come tomorrow as I will be getting the pistons out and having a deeper look into things!! Cheers guys!!

The clean piston suggests a leaking head gasket, the carbon build up is exactly what i found in mine. Have you measured the cam chain as per manual instructions? Also, while you have the head off, do a leak test on it before you remove the valves. If you need more info on this, i'll let you know tomorrow when we meet up.
My heads currently being decoked and getting refaced, and all my valves have been decoked and will be fitted with new valve stem oil seals.
It will be interesting to see what you find when you take the sump off and find out how much instant gasket goo you have on the oil pick up pipe.
Also, when you refit the thermostat housing, make sure its perfectly in place and tightened in stages, i know, i managed to snap my spare one in half.....

Charlie, i take it you used that gunk stuff to remove the carbon from your exhaust ports then, came up real nice.
What was the lump of swarf from in the pic about half way down from, was it from your gearbox selector rod, or the damaged clutch engine casing?
Are you planning on doing the shims on your engine when its back together?
Keep the pics coming bud...

Hi mate,
All that was the original gasket seal from Kwikasfuki and silicone from where I think they have gone in and/or replaced the bottom end, I'm not sure, but it was a hell of a state.
There were bits of clutch and all sorts of shavings in there mate, gave it a good clean and off I go, onto the next bits ... lol!
I am planning to put her back together this week and see if I can get her started and done by the end of next week, beginning of the following.
I'll keep you all posted as I have to get the front end off and polish the frame yet.
Cheers bud!!

Just thought I'd mention, it's a 150/60/ZR18 67W that's going on her, I think as due to the price, I couldn't go wrong but I have heard off Andi that the wider tyres on these do have a tendency to make for worse handling on the corners??? We shall see as I plan on going round a hell of a lot of them!!!! lol!! I have just got powder-coating priced up as well, £145 AFTER shot-blasting? (Yet another £120)!!! Andi, I am sure you know someone that can help me reduce that mate, surely??? Cheers guys!

And you reckon i dont sleep, you supposed to be setting up a business dude.
If you want one of the pistons out my spare engine, i'll bring them down next week with the cam cover, you can pick which one you want and give me your old skanky one so i can fill the empty hole.
I will be trying to arrange the sand blasting / powdercoating prices on friday, if i add your frame and subrame and swinging arm to the lot, we can probably get some discount sorted as a batch lot.
Do the leak test i described on the valves before you pop them out, as you will know whether you have to have the faces reseated or just get away with lapping the valves back in.
Otherwise, keep going bud, and you may get to ride it before our summer totally disappears for 2011.

Hey dude,
Just woke up lol!!
I would be really appreciative of that mate, wicked!! I don't know if you can see the marks very well but it is stamped in there!!!
Send me the instructions of the leak-test you are on about, I have done a few "home-made" versions and a few ideas of my own, but pm me what you would do, I can't see how there is a leak and my tests have proven that 6 out of 10 cats, er ...
I got the oven cleaner out and started with tat today, ver abrasive and effective to be honest, got into some of the carbon but jesus, it's stuck in there!!! still got loads of scrubbing to do and I think I'll be looking for a wire brush-drill bit tomorrow!!
My business is going to kick off next week as the product gets here on Wednesday and I think I'm going to be very very busy as from there, just trying to get as much done before the arrival!!
Cheers buddy!!

Hi fellah,
It's the forum software mate, this version is very old.
I told you, if you want help getting the forum on your own site, then let's go for it, I can get it all set-up and migrated in a question of minutes, that way you can have it all on your site and control everything from there!
We'll chat when you come by next week matey!!
Cheers bud!
P.S., don't forget to PM me how to do the leakdown.
