I'll do a How To tomorrow (Thursday) when i get back from the gym.
Be very careful with wire brushes and drills, you could end up doing a impromptu porting job.

That's what I am worried about!!!
I have been quite easy-going with the wire and the suede brush up until now but I have this constant feeling ...
Cheers buddy!

Hey guys, Well, here we are again but hey, still plodding on with what I can!!! After some consideration, I decided to actually do another leak test on the valves today, I was boggled as to whether or not the one I did yesterday was actually correct as I had a lot of fluids floating around the place and I may have been mistaken. So, after de-coking the valves today, I decided to go for it again and to my surprise, I was right, there is NO leak and the valves are in tact, well, that has yet to be confirmed but looking through the exhaust ports I can see no bending or damage so hopefully, when Andi comes with his trusty compressor (valves) we will be able to confirm each one and I will be happier than Harry Potter after losing his virginity (finally). I have taken just a few photos today guys as I have only attacked the valves to get them in tip top shape!! Can't get these bastards undone, tried everything!! Rocker cover: I am going to sandblast and polish it in the end, easy!!!! No leakage what-so-ever!! WICKED!! So all in all I am a happy chap today, I couldn't find anything wrong with the valves or anything, so, just going to wet and dry down some of the imperfections to get is smooth as a baby's bum and then cover her and prep for the sandblasting!! Cheers!

Hi Guys, I have decided to try out something new after Andi and I spoke about it today, DIY Soda Blasting, it's extremely simple and actually looks like it could work a treat. I came across a link of a guy that fixes up VW's, don't know how I cam across it but I did, here's a link to how to complete the whole set-up: www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/The guy is always trying to save cash on everything he does so... I have also found some guys that have tried it out and are pleased with the outcome: www.garagenight.tv/diy-soda-blasting-build-your-own-rig-cheap/Hope this saves some people some dollar!! I will be taking a video when I try it out, my compressor came and was all smashed up by the transport company, all the motor mounts are broken so I have to improvise to get it fixed, once I've done that I'll do the photos and video! Cheers Guys!

Hey guys, Have stripped the pillion bars and fairing cage down to the bare metal to see how well they would turn out, not too bad but they were, after all, pitted to hell!!! I don't have a grinder and I certainly didn't want to grind away like an idiot to then destroy them, so, I just got the worst off and then sanded, zinc'd and sprayed! Here's the before and afters: I think the previous (or one of) owner had a bad fall and has broken the fairing bracket at some stage, it has been welded back together one of the supports for the mirror has broken off but I have the part separately stored, I will just have to put that on when I do the tightening, other than that, quite pleased with the outcome. I will buy a new bracket once one comes available online, until then, this one looks the part for now! Cheers guys!

This looks great mate! I want to do the same with my block! I'm very interested in the diy soda blasting!
May I ask what you used to get the block so clean? I want to do this too! Also, does it actually have any effect to clean up the block?

Cheers fellah!
I believe that you need a good compressor and some serious pressure, I have a 2.5hp 116psi 50ltr FIAC but I'm still not sure how it will perform, I am going to buy a blasting gun to be honest, I think I'll need more pressure than what's on tap but in the meantime I will try the DIY solution out and see how it goes.
These parts I did with a wire & flap wheel, it was, again, what I would normally call a "botch job" but to be honest, came out quite good (just testing it out or now).
I "MAY" do it this weekend, I have loads on but if I do then I'll post a youtube vid and show the results.
Cheers again!!

Sorry mate, as for the block, it took me more than a week of GUNK, wire brush and brass suede brush, I am absolutely gagging to just get it sand blasted but it could just mess the whole thing up.
This is why I am going for the soda blasting, a lot less abrasive and you can blast just about anywhere, wash it out later with water as it just dissolves, and no need for so much protective wear.
If you do decide and get round to doing it before me, let us all know how it went and get a vid on youtube to spread the word!!
Cheers again fellah!

this sounds great mate! Were baby zxr's officially sold over there? They weren't here and parts are a pregnant dog... not to mention ridiculously expensive for simple things!
I'm going to attack the block soon then, right now I'm just trying to put the footpegs back together, and the powder coater has coated over the shaft of the peg, and now the clearances are all out and it won't go back together ! Argh! Have to get some paint stripper or cut it up with a stanley... hmmm but yeah, looks great mate, wish I was there so we could do the rebuild together!

Hi Mate,
Nope, they weren't commercialized over here, they are classed as "Grey Imports" from Japan, it's the same thing here, no parts, that's why I am trying so hard to get newly made parts available as I am sure people down under and in Asia would be grateful.
All I can say is bathe the block in "GUNK" for a good 24 hours, I left it 3 days for one pass and it does soak away but doesn't do any damage, it's not too abrasive to do that.
I am thinking of getting stainless steel pipes done soon, my mate already makes them for cars so I may just propose the idea to him, nice sets of 4 into 2's would sound and look the dog's nads on these bikes.
I am currently moulding rear cowls to make an easy slip-over 1 seater "SP" look-alike effect for the bike, some in reinforced fibreglass and some in carbon fibre.
All good for us ZXR lovers!! lol!!
Cheers buddy!

sounds great! Let me know what happens! I'm going to be making a belly pan and a headlight cowl for all the naked lovers, so maybe I'll use those moulds and make other people some!
